Restorative Yoga Storytime

at Roots & River Yoga in Bruswick, MD

The philosophy of yoga unfolds in the stories of the gods and goddesses as five acts of Grace: creation, protection, destruction, concealment, and revelation.

In this workshop, Tara will guide you into fully supported Restorative Yoga poses. While you rest your body deeply for 10-20 minutes in each pose, she will tell stories from the yoga tradition.

As you unwind your body’s tension, the stories invite your mind to consider how you are a co-participant in acts of Grace in your life.

You’ll leave with a satisfying renewal of your body and unique insights into your psyche.

No experience needed - everyone is welcome.

2 CEU's available for yoga teachers registered with Yoga Alliance.

From the Roots of Yoga

at Roots & River Yoga in Brunswick, MD

Starting on the banks of the Ganges all the way to your sticky mat today, yoga concepts and practice have evolved as a long and rich tradition. Part history lesson, part philosophical inquiry, this workshop begins with a bird's eye view of the yoga history timeline and an introduction to philosophies of India that have the most influence on yoga today.

You'll learn about the four main pillars of yoga (ethics and duty, action and consequence, cycles, and freedom), the nature of our soul, the goal of yoga practice and more. Tara's dynamic lecture style in this workshop makes complicated ideas and writings accessible and relevant to you and your yoga practice. The only prerequisite is curiosity. Come till the soil at the ground of yoga to grow the seeds of your own practice!

The material in this workshop is suitable for curious yoga practitioners, aspiring and current yoga teachers. No previous study or familiarity with yoga texts is required.

Expect mostly lecture/presentation with time for reflection and discussion, along with a comprehensive handout and a recommended reading list for further study. We will not be practicing any asana.

4 CEUs with Yoga Alliance are available for registered yoga teachers.

Secrets to a Satisfying Shavasana

at Roots & River Yoga in Brunswick, MD

It can be easy to dismiss shavasana as that easy pose at the end of class where you just lie down on the floor. You can even be tempted to skip it altogether. However, shavasana is the most essential pose for teaching you how to access the feelings of ease you find on the mat in your busy and often stressful life off the mat.

The fullest expression of shavasana requires relaxing your body and quieting your mind in a very complete and profound way.

Learn the theory of Restorative Yoga, stories from the tradition about shavasana, and some practical ways to support your body.

If you love shavasana, you'll love it even more after this. If you loathe shavasana, this class might change your mind!

Open to everyone and no previous yoga experience is needed.

Eligible for 3 CEUs with Yoga Alliance.

Yin + Restorative Yoga Day Retreat

at Uplift Yoga in Olney, MD

Tara and Machelle will co-lead a full-body, gentle yoga practice to untangle tension in the body and the mind. Machelle will then guide you through a nurturing Yin Yoga practice designed for the support of the joints, ligaments, and fascia of the shoulders, low back, sacrum and spine while reading mediative texts to soothe your soul.

After a break, Tara will guide you in winding down even more through a series of propped Restorative Yoga poses. With calming music and very little talking, Restorative Yoga consists of doing less in order to receive more. The practice soothes the nervous system, quiets the mind, and releases deeply held tension within the body in a completely passive way.

The combination Gentle Yoga, Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga will move you progressively into a profoundly relaxing afternoon.

Join us to remember the gift of who you are a little more clearly!
