Un-hunch

at Pea Street Yoga in DC

Slouching seems to be a way of life. Our shoulders roll forward when we are on our computers, looking at our phones, eating our food, driving our car, and riding our bikes, just to name a few. It's no wonder so many of us experience pain in our neck and shoulders! Armed (pun totally intended!) with more awareness, we can un-hunch to more openness and ease in our upper body.

This workshop is devoted to the exploration of the connections between your upper back, shoulders, and neck as we consider the yoga poses and transitions that tax our shoulders the most. With somatic principles, simple strength building exercises, and mobilizing drills, you will discover how to make your yoga practice more accessible and more supportive in the direction of un-hunching!

Hamstring Help

at Pea Street Yoga in DC

If you are constantly plagued by tight hamstrings, this workshop is for you! Yoga postures are particularly good at stretching the backs of your legs, which can temporarily help relieve low back and hip discomfort. However, you might need some extra attention to your outer hips, inner thighs, and quads to get longer lasting relief for those tight hammies. In fact, your hamstring woes might even be caused by something happening in your upper back!

This workshop offers you experiential anatomy lessons that can help you understand the why of your tight hamstrings. You'll get a stretch and strengthen combo to tend to the back of your body that will leave feeling more empowered, easeful and grounded.

Yin + Restorative Yoga Day Retreat

at Uplift Yoga in Olney, MD

Tara and Machelle will co-lead a full-body, gentle yoga practice to untangle tension in the body and the mind. Machelle will then guide you through a nurturing Yin Yoga practice designed for the support of the joints, ligaments, and fascia of the shoulders, low back, sacrum and spine while reading mediative texts to soothe your soul.

After a break, Tara will guide you in winding down even more through a series of propped Restorative Yoga poses. With calming music and very little talking, Restorative Yoga consists of doing less in order to receive more. The practice soothes the nervous system, quiets the mind, and releases deeply held tension within the body in a completely passive way.

The combination Gentle Yoga, Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga will move you progressively into a profoundly relaxing afternoon.

Secrets to a Satisfying Shavasana

at Roots & River Yoga in Brunswick, MD

It can be easy to dismiss shavasana as that easy pose at the end of class where you just lie down on the floor. You can even be tempted to skip it altogether. However, shavasana is the most essential pose for teaching you how to access the feelings of ease you find on the mat in your busy and often stressful life off the mat.

The fullest expression of shavasana requires relaxing your body and quieting your mind in a very complete and profound way.

Learn the theory of Restorative Yoga, stories from the tradition about shavasana, and some practical ways to support your body.

If you love shavasana, you'll love it even more after this. If you loathe shavasana, this class might change your mind!

Open to everyone and no previous yoga experience is needed.
