Moving From Within: Somatic Principles and Practices
at Uplift Yoga in Olney, MD
“Somatic” is a buzz word these days. But what exactly does “somatic” mean and how does it apply to yoga?
Drawing from Feldenkrais and Body-Mind Centering, you will practice several somatic lessons and brainstorm with others how these approaches and language can inform yoga practice and sequencing.
By the end of the workshop, you will be able to confidently articulate the differences between somatic movements and corrective exercises/drills. You will be able to explain perception versus attention, decision versus intention, and execution versus action. Plus you’ll learn a framework for identifying which of these approaches can be implemented in which circumstances to best support your students and your own yoga practice.

Sunday, April 18, 2:30-4:30 pm
Monkeys, Bridges, and Crocodiles: Restorative Yoga with Mythology from the Ramayana
at Uplift Yoga in Olney, MD
In this 2-hour workshop, Tara will tell stories from the Indian epic known as the Ramayana as you rest in supported Restorative Yoga poses.
The mythology of the restorative versions of markatasana (monkey pose), setubhandasana (bridge pose) and makrasana (crocodile pose) will inform the energy and purpose of these postures for you in a new way.
We’ll end the workshop with tea, cookies, and a discussion of your experience in the practice.
Grab your favorite blanket and join us for the grown-up version of story and nap time!

Rowing a Boat in the Sea:
Prana and Pranayama
at Uplift Yoga in Olney, MD
Pranayama - the breath practices of yoga - is one of the most deeply powerful but underused and misinterpreted set of yoga tools. Despite being identified as one of the limbs of yoga in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the Hatha Yoga Pradipika, and in other yoga texts, most yoga classes do not spend much time on this important and impactful aspect of yoga.
In this workshop, you will learn the prerequisite breath practices and four foundational pranayama techniques. We’ll also consider several more complicated variations of breath practices and discuss the benefits and applications of each. There will be some simple posture practice in this workshop to prepare you to sit for the breath practice, as well as a brief exploration of the power of coordinating breath with movement. You will leave feeling more confident practicing and leading pranayama practice.

Rest for All:
Restorative Yoga Teacher Training
at Uplift Yoga in Olney, MD
Unlike more vigorous yoga practices that aim to build strength or increase flexibility through posture work, in Restorative Yoga, we stop trying to control our body and mind and instead rest with support, awareness, and intention. This opens us to the potential for the most profound experiences of connection with our authentic Self.
Restorative Yoga is an art, science and skill that is not as simple as telling our students to lie down.
Rest for All: Restorative Yoga Teacher Training will prepare you to teach full Restorative Yoga classes, incorporate Restorative Yoga postures into more active classes, combine Restorative Yoga with other modalities, and deepen your personal practice of yoga.
